Demandware Announces Michael Hill as Winner of First Annual Commerce Pacesetter Award2014-4-25
Burlington, MA – April 25, 2014 – Demandware®, Inc. (NYSE: DWRE), the industry-leading provider of enterprise cloud commerce solutions, announced that Michael Hill, an international jewelry retailer, is the winner of the first annual Demandware Commerce Pacesetter Award. James Johnson, group digital manager at Michael Hill, presented at the 2014 Demandware XChange conference, highlighting innovative ways the retailer leveraged the Demandware platform to produce a 97 percent increase in mobile traffic, a 500 percent increase in transactions and a 290 percent increase in sales.
Michael Hill was one of three finalists selected to present at the Annual Demandware XChange Conference in Miami, Florida, where an audience of nearly 1,000 attendees voted on the winner. The retailer was recognized for creating a superb online customer experience that rivals the in-store experience. Michael Hill launched four ecommerce sites on the Demandware platform in November 2013, and within three months, experienced an 85 percent increase in site visits and a 220 percent increase in conversion rates. With the support of Amblique, a Demandware LINK Solution Partner, Michael Hill developed a highly interactive user experience for its customers, including features such as a “build your own charm bracelet” feature, shoppable videos and interactive catalogs.

Other finalists for the award include Crocs, an international lifestyle brand, and Scotch & Soda, an Amsterdam-based fashion brand.
Crocs was recognized for creating compelling mobile experiences and innovative holiday promotions. Harvey Bierman, vice president of global ecommerce at Crocs, shared how the company used the Demandware Commerce platform in partnership with LINK partner Mobify to provide highly personalized experiences to consumers as their attention increasingly shifts toward mobile. In fact, over the course of past several years, Crocs has seen a major traffic shift from desktop users to mobile engaged customers, with nearly half of all customer engagement occurring via a mobile device in some markets. Through mobile optimization efforts in seven regions, Crocs increased smartphone conversions by nearly 50 percent and enabled the company to achieve payback on their investment in mobile optimization in less than six months. Crocs also leveraged the Demandware platform to launch a creative, highly engaging campaign in Japan. Called the “Lucky Bag,” it enabled the brand to emotionally connect with their customers through a “surprise and delight” offer and keep the brand top of mind during a significant national selling period. The campaign also generated significant revenue for the company, generating about 2 percent of sales for the region with some of the Lucky Bag items selling out within hours of their launch.
Scotch & Soda was recognized for the rapid implementation of 13 ecommerce sites around the globe. Wim Van Zijl, ecommerce manager at Scotch & Soda, described how the company launched its U.S. site nine weeks after kicking off the project, and subsequently launched an additional 12 sites just five weeks later. Almost every site showed an immediate increase in revenue, average order volume (AOV) and conversion after launching on Demandware. Supporting 73 countries, six languages and six currencies, Scotch & Soda experienced a 97 percent average growth rate, recognizing nearly 30 percent of orders placed via mobile devices, since launching on the Demandware platform July 2013. Additionally, the company reported a 33 percent increase in site visitors, a 42 percent increase in conversion rates, a 22 percent increase in average order value and a 190 percent increase in sales.
